Wet weather returns as we approach the weekend. The main focus will transition to Saturday, specifically the afternoon and evening hours with the potential for strong to severe thunderstorms.

In addition to the convective chances Saturday there will also be the potential for brief heavy downpours.

Temperatures will steadily warm today and tomorrow into the 60s, reaching the 70s for much of the area Saturday and again Sunday.

Then after a brief break in the wet weather Sunday night, another storm system is forecast to approach the area late Monday into Tuesday.

INDIANAPOLIS 7-DAY EXTENDED FORECAST

Today: Isolated showers after 3pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 63. East southeast wind around 10 mph. The chance of precipitation is 20%.

Tonight: Isolated showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 49. East wind 6 to 8 mph. The chance of precipitation is 20%.

Friday: Scattered showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 64. East southeast wind 7 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. The chance of precipitation is 40%.

Friday Night: Showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 11pm. Low around 52. East southeast wind around 10 mph. The chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Saturday: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. High near 75. South southeast wind 10 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph. The chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Saturday Night: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 2am, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2am. Low around 60. The chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Sunday: A 30 percent chance of showers before 8am. Partly sunny, with a high near 72.

Sunday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 50.

Monday: A 30 percent chance of showers after 2pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 72.

Monday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 2am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 56. The chance of precipitation is 70%.

Tuesday: Showers and thunderstorms likely. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 70. The chance of precipitation is 70%.

Tuesday Night: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly cloudy, with a low around 50.

Wednesday: A 30 percent chance of showers. Mostly sunny, with a high near 71.
