Indianapolis Weather Forecast for August 25, 2021

High heat is expected into Thursday, along with the potential for thunderstorms.

INDIANA HEAT ADVISORY 2 PM to 8 PM

A Heat Advisory is in effect this afternoon from 2 PM to 8 PM. Take extra precautions if working or spending extended time outside. Know the signs of heat exhaustion.

  • WHAT…Heat index values up to 105 are expected.
  • WHERE…Portions of central, east-central, north-central, south-central, southeast, southwest, and west-central Indiana.
  • WHEN…From 2 PM this afternoon to 8 PM EDT this evening.
  • IMPACTS…Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses to occur.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing when possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heatstroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1.

INDIANAPOLIS 7-DAY EXTENDED FORECAST

Today: A chance of showers before noon, then a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1pm. Mostly sunny and hot, with a high near 92. West southwest wind 3 to 7 mph. The chance of precipitation is 40%.

Tonight: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before midnight. Partly cloudy, with a low around 74. West wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.

Thursday: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 11am. Mostly sunny and hot, with a high near 93. Heat index values as high as 100. Light and variable wind. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Thursday Night: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 2am. Partly cloudy, with a low around 73. Light and variable wind.

Friday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms between 8am and 2pm, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 2pm. Mostly sunny and hot, with a high near 91. South southwest wind 3 to 6 mph. The chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Friday Night: Showers likely before 8pm. Partly cloudy, with a low around 73. The chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch are possible.

Saturday: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Sunny and hot, with a high near 92.

Saturday Night: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 8pm. Mostly clear, with a low around 73.

Sunday: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2pm. Sunny and hot, with a high near 92.

Sunday Night: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 71.

Monday: Showers and thunderstorms likely. Partly sunny, with a high near 87. The chance of precipitation is 60%.

Monday Night: Showers and thunderstorms likely. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 68. The chance of precipitation is 60%.

Tuesday: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly sunny, with a high near 85.
