Indianapolis Weather Forecast for August 12, 2021

An area of storms is moving east across north-central Indiana.

These storms will have heavy rain, gusty winds, and small hail. Additional thunderstorm development later today and again tonight.

There is a Marginal Risk for severe thunderstorms this afternoon through tonight. Isolated to scattered thunderstorms are expected today with high temperatures in the 90s.

Additional non-severe thunderstorms tomorrow will be followed by much cooler temperatures for this weekend.

A final day of hot and humid temperatures today before relief arrives tomorrow.

Afternoon heat index values of around 105 degrees are expected across central Indiana.

Wear light colors, limit outdoor exposure, and stay hydrated!

HEAT ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 1 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO 8 PM EDT THIS EVENING

  • WHAT…Heat index values up to around 105 are expected.
  • WHERE…All of central Indiana.
  • WHEN…From 1 PM this afternoon to 8 PM EDT this evening.
  • IMPACTS…Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses to occur.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside.

When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening.

Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing when possible.

To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments.

Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location.

Heatstroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1.

INDIANAPOLIS 7-DAY EXTENDED FORECAST

Today: Isolated showers and thunderstorms after 4pm. Mostly sunny and hot, with a high near 93. Heat index values as high as 100. Southwest wind around 11 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. The chance of precipitation is 10%.

Tonight: Scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 7pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 74. Southwest wind 6 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Friday: Scattered showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 86. West wind 6 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Friday Night: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 2am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 63. North northeast wind 5 to 7 mph.

Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 80. Northeast wind 5 to 8 mph.

Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 60.

Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 80.

Sunday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 61.

Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 83.

Monday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 66.

Tuesday: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 83.

Tuesday Night: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly cloudy, with a low around 67.

Wednesday: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 85.
