Indianapolis Weather Forecast for August 11, 2021

Hot and stormy conditions through the rest of the workweek with temperatures in the 90s and daily storm chances.

There may be a few strong to severe storms today through Thursday before cooler and dry weather arrives this weekend.

HEAT ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 1 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO 8 PM EDT THIS EVENING

  • WHAT…Heat index values up to around 105 are expected.
  • WHERE…Portions of central, east-central, south-central, and southeast Indiana.
  • WHEN…From 1 PM this afternoon to 8 PM EDT this evening.
  • IMPACTS…Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses to occur.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside.

When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening.

Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heatstroke.

Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing when possible.

To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments.

Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location.

Heatstroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1.

INDIANAPOLIS 7-DAY EXTENDED FORECAST

Today: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 11am. Partly sunny and hot, with a high near 93. Heat index values as high as 103. Southwest wind 11 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph.

Tonight: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 2am. Partly cloudy, with a low around 76. South southwest wind 10 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph.

Thursday: A slight chance of showers, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 11am. Mostly sunny and hot, with a high near 93. Heat index values as high as 100. Southwest wind 9 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. The chance of precipitation is 40%.

Thursday Night: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly cloudy, with a low around 75. Southwest wind 6 to 9 mph.

Friday: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 86. West wind 5 to 9 mph. The chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Friday Night: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before 8pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 63. The chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Saturday: A 10 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 8am. Mostly sunny, with a high near 81.

Saturday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 61.

Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 83.

Sunday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 64.

Monday: A 20 percent chance of showers. Mostly sunny, with a high near 85.

Monday Night: A 10 percent chance of showers. Partly cloudy, with a low around 66.

Tuesday: A 40 percent chance of showers. Mostly sunny, with a high near 85.
