Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) Sergeant nabs 26-year-old suspect after the suspect is alleged to have shot a 44-year-old victim in the arm after a disturbance.

On July 1, 2017, just after 12:30 a.m., IMPD officers were dispatched to the Run Inn Bar and Grill located in the 6300 block of W. 38th St. on a report of shots fired. 9-1-1 dispatchers later informed responding officers that the incident had been updated to a person shot. When officers arrived, they found the victim, identified as 44-year-old Kara Thompson, suffering from gunshot wound to the arm. EMS crews arrived and transported the victim to Eskenazi Hospital in good condition.

An alert shift Sergeant, who was sitting across the street, saw a vehicle pulling out of the parking lot of the location and quickly initiated an investigative stop of the vehicle. Inside the vehicle, the Sergeant located three people one of which was identified as 26-year-old Raynard Matthews.

Aggravated Assault detectives responded and quickly established via witnesses that the suspect Raynard was the suspected shooter. According to witnesses at the scene the suspect and an uninjured person engaged in both a verbal and physical altercation over the suspect not having his ID. It was after this altercation that the suspect is alleged to have shot the female victim. Detectives arrested the suspect on a preliminary charge of felony level battery. The suspect was transported to the Arrestee Processing Center for processing and charging decision by the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office.
