INDIANAPOLIS – Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) Homicide detectives are investigating the circumstances around a shooting that left one man dead and a woman seriously injured on the city’s west side.
Just after 8 p.m. on July 12, 2017, officers with the IMPD were dispatched to the 1100 block of Medford Ave on reports of a person shot. Responding officers arrived and located an unresponsive male and a female suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. EMS personnel responded and rushed both subjects to Eskenazi Hospital. The male subject later died, despite the best efforts of medical staff. The female subject is currently listed in stable condition.
Homicide detectives responded to the scene and began gathering witness statements. The circumstances around this incident are under investigation. This is believed to be an isolated incident. The Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency responded to assist in identifying and collecting potential forensic evidence. The Marion County Coroner’s Office (MCCO) will be assisting and will determine the exact manner and cause of death. The name of the deceased male can be obtained from the MCCO after proper next-of-kin notification has been made.
