Carteia Gilbert, 18, Arrested as Suspect in shooting of Christopher Lane, 28, and Jabri Clancy, 19

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) detectives have arrested an 18-year-old suspect after it is alleged that he shot two people on Thursday night.

On Thursday, June 29, 2017, at approximately 6:45 p.m., IMPD officers were dispatched to the 9600 block of Shoreland Ave (The Marina Apartments) reference two people shot. When officers arrived, they found 28-year-old Christopher Lane and 19-year-old Jabri Clancy both suffering from gunshot wounds. Christopher was suffering from a gunshot wound to the arm and Jabri was suffering from a gunshot wound to right leg. Both injuries were considered non-life threatening and both men were transported to Sidney Lois Eskenazi Hospital in good condition.

Detectives with IMPD’s Aggravated Assault Unit responded and quickly developed investigative information that 18-year-old Carteia Gilbert was involved and the likely shooter. Detectives through investigative effort discovered a location where the suspect was staying and served a search warrant. Inside the apartment, they the suspect and took him into custody without incident. The suspect was subsequently arrested on preliminary charges of battery and carrying a handgun without a license. The suspect was transported to the Arrestee Processing Center to be processed awaiting a filing a decision by the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office.

IMPD continues to urge community involvement to aid our effort to address non-fatal shootings. You will remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1000 if the information leads to a felony arrest. Only tips submitted directly and anonymously to Crime Stoppers are eligible for these cash rewards. This release may be updated as more information becomes available. Information given via Crime Stoppers should be considered anonymous.
