Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Aggravated Assault detectives arrest a 16-year-old juvenile suspect after he allegedly shoots and seriously injures a man.

Saturday, June 10, 2017, just before 12:30 p.m., officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) were sent to the 5100 block of Milhouse Road in reference to a person shot. When officers arrived, they found 27-year-old Daniel Cook of Indianapolis laying on the floor of garage suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. EMS crews quickly transported the victim to Sidney and Lois Eskenazi Hospital in serious condition.

Officers quickly obtained suspect information, who had fled by the time officers arrived, and begin to try to track the suspect’s whereabouts. Officers established a large perimeter and with the assistance of three IMPD’s Canine Unit tracked for the suspect, however, he was not captured. About a half-hour later, officers saw the suspect, still armed, and tried to approach him but the suspect fled. Officers established a second perimeter and with the help of IMPD’s Canine Unit were able to make an apprehension on the suspect.

Detectives from IMPD’s Aggravated Assault Unit arrived and after talking with a number of witnesses arrested the 16-year-old suspect on a preliminary charge of attempted murder – charged as a juvenile. Because the suspect is currently charged as juvenile his name nor his booking photo will be made available this weekend. Detectives believe that a simple argument escalated and eventually led to the senseless shooting of the victim.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department would like to remind residents, that disputes/arguments should not result in acts of violence. Here are four simple alternatives to help avoid violence:

  • Attempt to manage stress while remaining alert and calm
  • Control your emotions and behaviors
  • Be aware and respectful of differences
  • Get help before it turns violent
