Wayne County – A crash on SR1 this morning around 8:15 a.m., just south of Teetor Road, sent two women to the hospital with complaints of pain and non- life threatening injuries. Trooper Tyler Painter was driving through Hagerstown when a passing motorist flagged him down and informed him of a crash on SR1 just south of Hagerstown.

Painter and a Hagerstown unit arrived to find three vehicles involved in a rear end collision. The preliminary investigation revealed that Lauren Duncan, 21, of Batesville was driving a grey 2011 Mazda car south on SR1 when she failed to see traffic in front of her stopped for a train crossing. The area was receiving heavy rain at the time.

The car she was driving struck the rear of a white Chevrolet Suburban driven by Derika Wampler, age 36 of Greensfork, pushing it into a Chevrolet pickup driven by Jeffrey Edwards, 46, of Winchester. Both Duncan and Wampler were transported from the scene by Culberson Ambulance to Reid Health Hospital in Richmond for complaints of pain.

Trooper Painter was assisted at the scene by Trooper Harrison, the Hagerstown Police Department, Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, Hagerstown Fire and Culberson Ambulance Service.
