TRIBE NOTES

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS: The Indians continued their success in Columbus, taking the final four games of their five-game set to improve to 6-1 at Huntington Park in 2017. Indy’s three best records in Columbus came in 2000 (6-2) and 2012/2014 (8-3).

THAT WAS CLUTCH: Austin Meadows’ three-run homer in the eighth yesterday turned a 2-0 deficit into a 3-2 advantage for Indy. The homer was his second of 2017, with the other also occuring in the eighth inning on April 14 @ Toledo. He capped the Tribe’s last homestand with a bases-loaded walk-off single in the 11th inning, a 5-4 win over Norfolk.

NEARLY THREE YEARS TO THE DAY: Dan Runzler recorded the save yesterday in place of Edgar Santana who was limited to a single inning after throwing an inning on Wednesday night. Runzler worked a perfect ninth, giving him his first save nearly three years to the date; his last save prior to yesterday came on May 19, 2014 with Triple-A Fresno vs. Las Vegas at Chukchansi Park.

SO GOOD TO SEE YOU: Jason Rogers has found good success against Toledo in his two seasons with Indianapolis, batting a collective .313 (35-for-112) with six doubles, four home runs and 15 RBI in 29 games. This year, Rogers had led Indy’s offense against the Mud Hens, collecting a .344 average (11-for-32) with two doubles, two long balls and five RBI in eight contests.

YEAH, HE’S GOOD: Santana’s 0.39 ERA in second among pitchers in all of professional baseball who have made 15-plus appearances this season. Chicago Cubs closer Wade Davis is the only pitcher with those qualifications and a lower ERA than Santana. Davis has not allowed an earned run in 18 games in which he’s totaled 17.1 innings of work.
