TRIBE NOTES

LEADING OFF: Austin Meadows has found success in the leadoff spot, batting .350 (7-for-20) with three doubles and one RBI in five starts when hitting first. By comparison, he has hit .187 (14-for-75) when batting third and .200 (4-for-20) when in the five hole.

SEASON HIGH FOR THE BAD GUYS: The Indians allowed a season-high 11 runs in last night’s loss. Tribe pitching surrendered 11 hits, walked 10 and struck out 12. Indy also allowed five runs in the seventh inning, the second-most its allowed in a single frame this year (6, 7th inning, April 16 @ Toledo).

WEISS AS NICE: Batting third for a second time this season, Erich Weiss made the most of manager Andy Barkett’s confidence by going 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI last night. The three-hit game was his second of the season (also: May 2 vs. Toledo). After batting just .154 (6-for-39) over 11 games in the month of April, Weiss has turned it on in May, batting .375 (9-for-24) with three doubles and six RBI, his total for the entire season.

ANGEL TOUCHED UP: Angel Sanchez was tagged for seven earned runs in 2.0-plus innings of relief last night, matching his career high for earned runs allowed, previously done four times. The last time he surrendered that many runs was July 28, 2014, with Double-A Birmingham against Tennessee in the Southern League.

MAX TURNS 24: Max Moroff will bat third and play shortstop on his 24th birthday tonight. The switch-hitting middle infielder was recalled by the Pirates on May 8 and went 1-for-9 in four games, collecting his first big league hit and RBI with a pinch-hit single off Los Angeles Dodgers left-hander Luis Avilan. With Indy this season, Moroff is batting .258 (25-for-97) with four doubles and eight home runs, most on the team and tied for the league lead.
