TRIBE NOTES

CHARLOTTE AT INDY? NO PROBLEM: The Indians have owned Charlotte at Victory Field, going 61-37 through 98 matchups in downtown Indy. Indianapolis seeks a series sweep today, which would give them three consecutive years of sweeping the Knights at Victory Field. In 2015, Indy won all three games on its home diamond, before sweeping Charlotte last year at home in a four-game set. The Tribe haven’t lost a home game to the Knights since July 24, 2014, a 9-2 final at Victory Field. That win by Charlotte sealed a four-game sweep for the visitors.

CLAY CAN PLAY: After Drew Hutchison set a new season high by a Tribe starter for innings pitched (6.2) on Monday night, Clay Holmes one-upped him yesterday, throwing seven innings of two-run ball. Holmes also set a personal season high by striking out eight batters, one shy of Steven Brault’s team-best nine on April 21 vs. Scranton/W-B. After going 0-1 with an 11.57 ERA (6 ER in 4.2 IP) through his first two Triple-A starts, Holmes has improved greatly on the bump. Over his last four starts, he’s 1-0 with a 1.66 ERA (4 ER in 21.2 IP).

HOOK ‘EM: Holmes had his best ‘stuff’ of 2017 in yesterday’s win. He fanned eight batters, the final seven coming on his tight curveball. Four of his eight strikeouts were of the looking variety.

FIRST TIME FOR EVERYTHING: Prior to yesterday’s 3-2 victory, the Indians hadn’t won a game when scoring three runs or less. They were 0-10 prior to the win.
