The Indianapolis State Police Post would like to welcome Sergeant Trent Smith to the district. Sergeant Smith was recently granted a transfer to the post as a public information officer from the Bremen Post which is located in Marshall County.

Smith is originally from Osceola, Indiana and a graduate of Bethel College where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration.

A 22-year veteran of the Indiana State Police, Smith had worked out of the Bremen Post since he graduated from the Indiana State Police Academy in December of 1994. During his tenure with the department Smith has worked as a trooper and a corporal at the Bremen Post. For the past twelve years he has served as the district public information officer.

Sgt. Smith has also served on the Tactical Intervention Platoon and worked as a Field Training Officer. Smith was a member of the State Police Underwater Search Rescue Team (USRT) from 1998 to 2014 where he served as a scuba instructor, Team Leader and was the Assistant Commander of the program for more than five years.

While working for the department Smith has also had the opportunity to be part of the initial response to Hurricane Katrina in 2005 as a member of the USRT and to Hurricane Sandy in 2012 as a member of the Indiana Incident Management Assistance Team (IMAT) working as a PIO.

Sgt. Smith will be assisting with PIO duties at the Indianapolis District and will take on several administration duties.

Sergeant Smith recently moved to Greenwood where he resides with his wife Stacy. Trent and Stacy are parents of a son who attends Indiana University and a daughter who is an elementary school teacher in Mishawaka.
