Indians Pitcher Dovydas Neverauskas Gets Called up to Pittsburgh

April 24, 2017 by Naptown Buzz

INDIANAPOLIS – The Indianapolis Indians, in conjunction with the Pittsburgh Pirates, announced that right-hander reliever Dovydas Neverauskas was recalled to the big leagues. The Indians have not made a corresponding move ahead of their six-game road trip, which begins Tuesday evening at Pawtucket.

Neverauskas, 24, appeared in five games for the Indians this year, posting a perfect 0.00 ERA in 8.1 innings pitched. He allowed three unearned runs on four hits and three walks while fanning seven. He split his 2016 campaign between Indy and Double-A Altoona, going 4-4 with five saves and a 3.10 ERA (20 ER in 58.0 IP) in 47 games.

Neverauskas also threw a scoreless eighth inning for the World Team in the 2016 All-Star Futures Game at Petco Park.

Born in Vilnius, Lithuania, Neverauskas was signed by the Pirates as a non-drafted free agent on July 9, 2009, and was officially added to Pittsburgh’s 40-man roster this past November. Neverauskas looks to join outfielder Joe Zapustas of the Philadelphia A’s in 1933 as the only Lithuanian-born players to appear in a Major League game. Zapustas was born in Lithuania, but grew up in Boston.
