CR 300N in Johnson County at I-65 Closes Monday, April 10th

April 7, 2017 by Naptown Buzz

Indiana Department of Transportation‘s contractor plans on making minor repairs and installing a new thin polymeric bridge deck overlay—beginning Monday (APRIL 10)—at the C.R. 300 North structure that overpasses Interstate 65.  This bridge on C.R. 300N—also known as Earlywood Drive—is located 2.67 miles north of the State Road 44/Franklin exit in Johnson County.

Beginning Monday morning at 9 a.m., the C.R. 300N structure will be closed to ALL traffic.  INDOT officials anticipate work to remove and replace the bridge’s existing driving surface will continue for up to ten days. Motorists are advised to follow detour signage to circumvent the closure.

Dave O’Mara of North Vernon is the state’s contractor for this $916,500 bridge preservation project which includes five bridges requiring four full closures.  Other Johnson County bridges spanning I-65 are:

  • CR 100 North–0.92 miles north of S.R. 44 tentatively scheduled to close for two weeks beginning April 20
  • CR 250 South–3.13 miles south of S.R. 44 tentatively scheduled to close for two weeks May 1
  • Greensburg Road–2.15 miles south of S.R. 44 tentatively scheduled to close from May 22 to July 25

The S.R. 44 bridge at Sugar Creek in nearby Shelby County will be impacted for approximately one month —beginning April 17—while crews make repairs and install the new deck overlay.  Temporary signals at either end of the S.R. 44 3-span structure will allow alternating single-lane traffic flow during refurbishing operations.  The bridge is located 3.63 miles east of I-65.

The state’s project calls for overlaying each of the five bridges with a 3/8-inch polymeric surface designed to seal the structures from moisture intrusion and harmful UV rays.  Flint chips mix with the epoxy polymer to create long-lasting surface friction that maximizes stopping capabilities and vehicular maneuverability.
