Citizens Energy Group Reports Natural Gas Well Emergency Near Worthington

April 19, 2017 by Naptown Buzz

INDIANAPOLIS – Citizens Energy Group is reporting a failure of a natural gas storage well located in a rural area about 4 miles south of Worthington, Indiana between County Road 325 North and County Road 200 North. The well is part of the utility’s underground gas storage operations in the area. No injuries or property damage has occurred.

The well emergency has resulted in the following impacts:

• Evacuation of 7 nearby homes
• Closure of State Route 67 from Switz City to State Route 54, and closure of County Road 325 near the well site
• Loss of electrical power to about 93 Duke Energy customers in the area

Safety procedures call for allowing the gas in the well to dissipate over the next 24 hours. Only public safety personnel will be allowed in the area near the well emergency.
