Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) have a suspect in custody after he allegedly attempted to break into a home on the southeast side of town.

Shortly before 9:30 a.m. on April 10, 2017, IMPD officers were called to 5110 Waybridge Ln. on the report of a burglary in progress. The caller stated she witnessed a black male kicking in the door of her neighbor’s home.

The first IMPD officer on scene observed a person matching the suspect’s description walking out a side door of the residence carrying a large white bag. When the suspect saw the officer he attempted to flee the scene on foot, discarding the white bag as he ran. After a short foot pursuit, officers were able to apprehend him without incident. The man, identified as 28-year-old Christopher Wells, was still in possession of several credit and debit cards belonging to the victim. The contents of the white bag were located and also determined to be from the residence.

Wells has been preliminarily charged with Burglary, Theft, and Resisting Law Enforcement. He was transported to the Arrestee Processing Center by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office for processing. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will review the case and make a charging decision.
