Ambulance and Dump Truck Collide in Sullivan County

Sullivan County – At 10:15 this morning, Indiana State Police responded to a two-vehicle crash on State Road 154 near County Road 600W. The crash involved a Sullivan County EMS ambulance and a Sullivan County Highway dump truck.

Preliminary investigation revealed a 2016 Chevrolet ambulance, driven by 27-year-old Kelsey Foster of Sullivan, IN. was eastbound on SR 154 with a patient from an earlier crash on SR 154 at CR 700W. A 2007 Mack dump truck, loaded with stone and driven by 42-year-old Randall Moon of Sullivan, IN., was also eastbound on SR 154, and slowing to make a right turn onto CR 600 West. Foster failed to see the slowing dump truck in time and veered off the roadway to the right. The ambulance traveled through a ditch area and up onto CR 600 W, ultimately striking the right rear dual tires of the county highway truck.

Kelsey Foster was transported to Sullivan County Community Hospital for treatment of pain. A medic tending to a patient in the rear of the ambulance, 30-year-old Joseph Scott of Sullivan, IN., was transported to SCCH for treatment of upper body pain. The onboard patient from an earlier crash, Duane Wampler, was relayed onto SCCH.

The crash was investigated by ISP Sergeant Kris Fitzgerald. Assisting were Sullivan County Sheriff’s deputies Jason Bobbitt, Bill Snead, and Ron Elliott, Carlisle EMS, and Turman Township Fire/Rescue.

Under the Law, criminal charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
