Lake Station, Lake County – A Valparaiso man died yesterday evening after crashing his car on I-80/94 eastbound near Central.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Kyle Glaze revealed at approximately 7:25 p.m., yesterday, April 27th, 2017, a 2003 Chevrolet Blazer, driven by Albert Jones II, 39 of Valparaiso, was eastbound on I-80/94 when for unknown reasons he hit the concrete median barrier wall. The Blazer went back across all eastbound lanes, went off the roadway, and down into a water-filled ditch on the south side.

Good Samaritans advised that Jones was unresponsive. Shortly thereafter, Glaze and two Lake County Sheriff deputies arrived. The Blazer was in about twenty-four inches of water and mud. Glaze pulled Jones from the Blazer and with assistance from Lake County and Lake Station Police got Jones to the roadway. A Lake Station officer began CPR.

Glaze retrieved his Automated External Defibrillator, AED, out of his police car and subsequently administered it. Medical personnel arrived and took over CPR.

Jones was taken to North Lake Methodist in Gary and later died. His family has been notified.

Assisting: Trooper Braden Wentworth, Lake County Sheriff’s Department, Lake Station Police and Fire, Prompt Ambulance and Precision Towing

All criminal defendants are to be presumed innocent until, and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
