31-year-old Derris Mack Murdered, IMPD Investigating

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) homicide detectives are investigating after a man dies from injuries he sustained after being shot.

On Friday, March 31, 2017, just before 8:00 p.m., Southwest District officers with IMPD responded to the 900 block of Pershing Avenue in reference to a 9-1-1 call reference a person shot. Officers arrived and found 31-year-old Derris Mack of Indianapolis suffering from at least one gunshot wound. The victim was rushed to Sidney and Lois Eskenazi Hospital by EMS personnel in serious condition. Despite the best efforts of medical professionals the victim later died while at the hospital.

Detectives are following up on several leads and information obtained from witnesses, but have not yet made public information about possible suspects or possible reasons for the shooting. However, this shooting is not believed to a random act of violence. The Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency processed the scene for forensics evidence that could aid investigators. The Marion County Coroner’s Office will determine a cause and manner of death after they perform an autopsy. No other injuries were reported.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call lead investigator homicide Detective B. Lambert at 317.327.2562 or the Homicide Office at 317.327.3745. Callers can also call Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317.262.8477 or (TIPS). Citizens can also download the mobile P3tips app for Apple or Android phones to submit a mobile tip, or go to www.CrimeTips.org to submit a web tip. You will remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1000 if the information leads to a felony arrest. Only tips submitted directly and anonymously to Crime Stoppers are eligible for these cash rewards. This release may be updated as more information becomes available.
