A traffic stop yesterday afternoon by an Indiana State Trooper has resulted in the arrest of a North Carolina man and the confiscation of 70 pounds of suspected marijuana.

Early yesterday, March 14, 2017, at approximately 2:00 p.m., Indiana State Police Drug Enforcement Section Criminal Interdiction Trooper Adam Buchta was patrolling I-70 EB at the Marion/ Hancock County line. Trooper Buchta conducted a traffic stop on a pickup truck after he observed the driver, later identified as Timothy Patrick Houghton, 36, of Raleigh, NC, comment a traffic violation.

While speaking with Houghton, Trooper Buchta detected indicators that criminal activity was afoot and developed information that lead to the discovery of 70 pounds of suspected marijuana inside a tool box in the rear of the pickup truck. The suspected marijuana was individually wrapped in 2 pound packages.

Houghton was transported to the Marion County Arrestee Processing Center and incarcerated for Dealing Marijuana over 10 pounds, a Level 5 Felony and Possession of Marijuana, a Level 6 Felony.

Anyone with information regarding illegal drug activity can call the Indiana State Police Tip Line at 1-800-453-4756. Callers can remain anonymous.
