Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) East District Officer Kasper was sent to the CVS Pharmacy located in the 1000 block of North Arlington Avenue on the report of a robbery where shots were fired. Officer Kasper was told by store employees that the drugstore had just been robbed by a man armed with a gun and that the suspect fired shots while inside the store.

Officers were told that the suspect entered the drugstore and ordered the store employee to the front of the store where the suspect fired a total of three gunshots into two separate cash registers. Both cash registers opened and the suspect started stuffing his pockets with an undisclosed amount of money.

Officers acting off witness information were sent to the 5900 block of East 12th Street, where inside an apartment building hallway they found a man matching the suspect’s description. Officers took the man into custody without incident. Officers identified the man as 27-year-old Willis Thomas of Indianapolis.

Officer found inside the man’s backpack a large amount of undisclosed money and a glove. Officers later found the gun and another glove that was likely used by the robber a short distance away, along with a trail of money. After reviewing surveillance footage from the CVS, it was determined that the detained suspect matched the suspect description in the surveillance video.

The suspect was arrested on preliminary charges of criminal recklessness, kidnapping, and robbery. The suspect was transported to the Arrestee Processing Center to be processed. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will review the facts of the case and make a charging decision.
