Mid-Level Drug Dealer Arrested During Traffic Stop

February 9, 2017 by Naptown Buzz

Thursday, February 9, 2017, 9:37 AM

On Wednesday (2/8/17) just after 4:00 p.m., Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department North District Officer Taylor conducted a traffic stop in the 2500 block N. Sherman Drive. During the traffic stop officers confiscated over 84 grams of suspected cocaine, 68 grams of suspected powder cocaine, 7 suspected Oxycontin pills, 2 handguns (1 handgun was reported stolen) along with $1,400.

During the traffic stop, it was determined that one of two suspects arrested was a Corey Taylor who has been suspected of frequenting both North and East Districts, to further his illegal drug activity. Furthermore, narcotics suspect that suspect Taylor is a possible mid-level drug dealer. During the traffic stop, an IMPD narcotics K-9 assisted and indicated the likely presence of drugs inside the vehicle. During a search of the vehicle, officers found the drugs, money, and guns.

Both 26-year-old Corey Taylor and 31-year-old Edriese Phillips were both arrested and preliminarily charged with dealing and possession of cocaine and possession of a controlled substance. Additionally, Taylor was arrested for serious violent felon in possession of a handgun. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will review the case and make a charging decision.

The evidence of this incident demonstrates the sheer danger officers face as IMPD continues efforts to disrupt the illegal sale of drugs in the Indianapolis community. With the help of the community, we are having an impact!  IMPD is grateful for the community’s efforts and requests that anyone with information about narcotics or illegal activities, to immediately contact Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at (317)262-TIPS(8477). Tips given via Crime Stoppers should be considered anonymous.
