Speedrome Stocks Return to their Roots

January 25, 2017 by Naptown Buzz

With all the great revitalization projects going on at the facility and the anticipation for racing both peaking one’s interests, the Indianapolis Speedrome Stocks are a group that fans will have an eye on in the coming months. Drivers embark on the track’s premier oval championship quest beginning on Saturday April 1st. The evening also includes Late Models on the oval and Figure 8 plus Thundercars, Factory Front Wheel Drives, Adult Faskarts, and Junior Faskarts. And no foolin’, spectator admission will be half price on this opening night extravaganza.

The modern Stock class was born in 1979 as an all oval series and then added Figure 8 competition from time to time later in its first decade. The upcoming 2017 championship points campaign will see a return to an all oval format for the first time since 1986. It will be a wide-open year. On any given night, any of the talented division drivers can claim glory in the main event. The best must display their skill on the challenging outside groove for ultimate success. Their cars may begin with a frame of a street car, but there is a whole lot of race car built into these formidable foundations of Detroit steel. It is a strong combination.

The Figure 8 course is however not forgotten for Stocks and Thundercar machines in 2017. Monthly Sunday afternoon non-points programs will feature the thrilling crossover action. The signature Stock Figure 8 will also return. It will reside as a part of a new big event weekend. The $2,000-to-win Brian Luttrell Memorial Figure 8 is the co-main event on Spring Shootout weekend. This concludes the Night before the Indy 500 Saturday May 27th. Expect many surprise stars entering this classic. For more information on this and much more, visit speedrome.com.
