Homicide detectives investigate stabbing death

INDIANAPOLIS – Detectives have arrested a 17-year-old juvenile female for the stabbing death of 23-year-old Mireya Arciga yesterday morning (1/23/17) in the 2600 block of North Riverside Drive.

Just before 11:00 p.m. last night (1/23/17) the 17-year-old female juvenile suspect surrender herself at IMPD Headquarters. The suspect was questioned by detectives and arrested on a preliminary charge of murder. Detectives suspect that the likely motive was jealousy. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will review the case for charging decision.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Homicide detectives investigate the stabbing death of 23-year-old Mireya Arciga in the 2600 block of North Riverside Drive.

On 1/23/17 just before 3:30 a.m., officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were sent to the 2600 blk. of Riverside Dr. reference a person stabbed. When officers arrived, they found the victim suffering from at least one stab wound. EMS crews arrived and transported the victim to IU Health Methodist Hospital in critical condition where despite best life-saving efforts by medical staff Mireya was pronounced deceased.

Detectives have interviewed several witnesses but have not yet made any arrest in this case. Detectives continue to following up on several promising leads but at this time detectives do not believe this incident is either a domestic or a random act of violence. For the investigative integrity of the investigation, no other information is available at this point.

The Marion County Coroner’s Office, in an earlier email, indicated the victim’s cause of death: sharp force trauma injuries and manner of death: homicide. Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to call Detective Everman at 317.327.3356 or Crime Stoppers at 317.262.8477 or TIPS. Information shared via Crime Stoppers should be considered anonymous and confidential and could be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1000 if the information leads to a felony arrest.
