Indianapolis Zoo’s Hispanic Heritage Fiesta September 18

Vibrant colors, zesty flavors, festive music and exotic species will come together for a cultural celebration at the Indianapolis Zoo.

Hispanic Heritage Fiesta presented by Indiana Donor Network is noon-4pm on Sunday, Sept. 18, and coincides with National Hispanic Heritage Month, which starts Sept. 15 and marks a month-long celebration of independence for eight Latin American countries.

The atmosphere of the Zoo will transform into a street fair, with lots of food, family-friendly activities and entertainment, all with a wild flair!

Guests can travel the Zoo in a special scavenger hunt to discover creatures native to Latin American countries and enjoy interesting animal artifacts to learn more about these and other exotic species. The Zoo animals themselves will also enjoy the festivities, with themed enrichment throughout the afternoon.

Traditional music will fill the air as contemporary Hispanic trio Con Paz will perform, and additional performances by Anderson Folklorico Dance Troupe will have everyone grooving.

Visitors can also take their tastebuds south of the border with delicious dishes inspired by the flavors of Latin America, including tamales, street tacos, tostadas, churros and more, which will be available for purchase at specialty food stations.

Younger guests can also enjoy an extra treat and take a swing at a piñata presented by 4moms. Plus, children can create their own sarape, decorate musical castanets and color the flags of Latin American countries. Additionally, visitors can stop by the information booths of area businesses that proudly serve the Hispanic community.

Hispanic Heritage Fiesta is free for Zoo members and included with regular admission. Guests can save money on their visit by buying discount tickets weekdays from La Voz de Indiana or by purchasing advance tickets at IndianapolisZoo.com.
