IMPD Encourages Community Involvement for National Night Out August 2

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) invites neighborhoods in the city of Indianapolis to participate in and celebrate, National Night Out (NNO) being held Tuesday, August 2, 2016.

National Night Out is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime efforts, strengthen neighborhood spirit, and send a strong message to criminals, letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

“National Night Out showcases the vital importance of a police-community partnership,” said IMPD Chief Troy Riggs. “We need citizen involvement to reduce crime, reduce the fear of crime and enhance Public Safety.”

It is anticipated that over 16,500 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities, and military bases around the world will participate. From 6 to 9 pm on Tuesday, August 2, 2016, residents in neighborhoods through Indianapolis are asked to spend the evening outside with your neighbors and police. While the traditional “lights on” and front porch vigils remain a part of NNO, activities have expanded to include a variety of events such as block parties, potlucks, cookouts, flashlight walks, contests, youth activities, and visits from city officials, police, and fire. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department will visit some community events that are registered with our department.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department is committed to making National Night Out a time for our community to stand together, promote awareness, safety, and neighborhood unity. Police officers will be out in force and will be stopping by some of the registered events citywide. Please visit IMPD’s Crime Watch web-site for further crime fighting efforts at, http://www.indy.gov/CrimeWatch/Pages/Home.aspx.
