UPDATED: Shooting Left Two Critical, One Dead, Near Fairgrounds (July 27th)

The victim who died on scene in the 1600 block of E 44th St has been identified as 24-year-old Wesley Small of Indianapolis. Detectives have also learned that one of the critically injured victims has died from their injuries sustained on 07/27/2016. That victim has been identified as 29-year-old Dajuan Mitchell of Indianapolis.

Detectives are continuing their investigation into this case and ask that anyone with information regarding this incident call Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at (317)262-TIPS(8477). This release may be updated as more information becomes available.

Thursday July 28th, 2016 :: 01:03 a.m. EDT

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) detectives are investigating a shooting that left two people critically injured and one dead on the city’s north side.

Just before 10:30 p.m. on 07/27/2016, officers were dispatched to the 1600 block of E 44th St on the reports of a person shot. When officers arrived they discovered three people inside a vehicle suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. EMS personnel responded and transported one male and the female to Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition. EMS personnel pronounced the other male dead at the scene.

IMPD homicide detectives responded and canvassed the area for witnesses and began conducting interviews. Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency responded to identify and collect possible forensic evidence. Detectives do not believe this to be a random act of violence. Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at (317)262-TIPS(8477). Tips given via Crimes Stoppers is considered anonymous. This release may be updated as more information becomes available.
