Pedestrian Struck on I-69 near Castleton (July 23)

Saturday morning around 3:00 a pedestrian was struck and killed on I-69 near 82nd Street. Preliminary investigation determined 30 year old Indianapolis resident Duane Costelow II, walked into the path of a northbound semi tractor-trailer in the right lane of I-69. The 2011 International semi was driven by 29 year old Kyle Albertson of Plainfield Indiana.

Investigators are still working to determine why Mr. Costelow II walked into the roadway, as there were no disabled vehicles in the area or an explanation of him walking on the interstate. Mr. Albertson was not injured and has fully cooperated with the investigation The northbound lanes of I-69 north of I-465 were closed for approximately two hours while the crash was investigated. Anybody who might have witnessed this incident is asked to call the Indiana State Police at 317-899-8577.

This is an ongoing investigation and there is no further information to release at this time. The Indiana State Police were assisted in this investigation by the Marion County Coroner’s Office, The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, the Lawrence Fire Department, INDOT and Zore’s Wrecker Service.
