Detectives have obtained a warrant charging 24-year-old Christian Cain with Murder and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Serious Violent Felon for the shooting death of 20-year-old Ariana Cheeks. The suspect was already being held in the Marion County Jail awaiting trial on an unrelated robbery case when IMPD detectives served him with the new charges.

###

At approximately 6:38 pm, officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were dispatched to the 1800 blk. of Roosevelt Avenue on reports of person shot.

When officers arrived, they found an unidentified unresponsive 20-year-old female upstairs suffering from at least one gunshot wound. EMS crews arrived and pronounced the victim dead. Officers found an uninjured juvenile male inside the house and he is cooperating with investigators.

Investigators found several shell casings outside the residence that lead them to believe the shooting was not a random act of violence. The victim’s name will not be released until proper notification has occurred to her next-of-kin. Detectives are canvassing the area for information and the Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency is processing the crime scene. Officers discovered a stolen vehicle in the rear of the house that was reported stolen during an armed carjacking on Tuesday, December 2. The vehicle will be impounded and processed for information.

Detectives encourage anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at (317) 262-TIPS (8477). Callers can also call IMPD Homicide at (317) 327-3475.
