Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department investigators with the Crash Investigations Section have arrested Jayme Murphy, 26, for allegedly striking Thomas Abell, 27, in the early morning hours of June 28, 2015 and then fleeing from the scene. Mr. Abell was located unresponsive near the intersection of Kessler Boulevard East Drive and Crestview Avenue and pronounced deceased at the scene.
Murphy was located at a home in the 8100 block of E 50th Street on July 22, 2015. She was arrested on a preliminary charge of Leaving the Scene of an Accident Resulting in Death and transported to the Adult Processing Center. A booking photo for Murphy is attached to this release.

The victim has been positively identified by the Marion County Coroner’s Office as Thomas Abell, 27, of Indianapolis. At this time, the investigation is on-going. INDIANAPOLIS – On June 28, 2015 at approximately 3:49 a.m., officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) were dispatched to the intersection of Kessler Boulevard East Drive and Crestview Avenue on the city’s northside on a report of a person down. Upon arrival officers located what they believe to be an adult male lying on the street unconscious and unresponsive. The male was pronounced dead at the scene by responding EMS personnel.
Investigators from IMPD’s Hit-and-Run section have been sent to the scene to conduct a criminal investigation into the circumstances. At the time of this release, no suspect or suspect vehicle has been identified. The victim has not been identified and the name will not be released until positive identification and family notifications are made by the Marion County Coroner’s Office.
