On July 13, 2015, officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) were dispatched to the 2500 block of East 18th Street on the report of a female not breathing in the residence. When officers arrived, they found 34 year-old Martha Cronkhite deceased in the basement from multiple gunshot wounds. At the residence, officers were able to detain 32 year-old Stephen Jones, and he was transported to the IMPD Homicide office for further questioning.
After questioning, IMPD Homicide detectives arrested Jones on a preliminary charge of murder, and he was transported to the Adult Processing Center. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office (MCPO) will review the case findings to determine a final charging decision. At this time, no additional details about this homicide will be released until a final charging decision is made by the MCPO.
