Indians Lose to Braves, 5th Straight Loss

The Gwinnett Braves scored four runs in the first four innings and added two key insurance runs late to defeat the Indianapolis Indians on Tuesday night, 6-3. The defeat was the fifth in a row for the Tribe, a new season high for the club who still maintains its lead in the International League West Division.

The Indians battled back from a three-run deficit to cut the Gwinnett advantage to just one run, but a pair of runs came across in the bottom of the eighth on a play that started as a wild pitch. The ball kicked to the left of catcher Tony Sanchez, and his throw home trying to retire Mycal Jones went wide of the plate, and Eric Young Jr. also scored on the play.

Young Jr. collected two hits and came around to score three runs for the Braves (35-35). Brent Morel led the offensive charge for Indianapolis (42-30), clubbing his fifth home run of the season and driving home a pair of runs.

Lafayette Ind. native Clayton Richard (3-2) started for the Tribe and was handed the loss. He settled down after a pair of shaky innings and worked six innings allowing four runs (three earned). Former Indianapolis pitcher Jake Brigham (1-0) came out of the Braves bullpen to get the win; he allowed a pair of runs in four innings.
