Indianapolis Indians Trainer, Bryan Housand, Named To Triple-A All-Star Staff

June 25, 2015 by Naptown Buzz

Housand_Bryan_HeadshotIndianapolis Indians athletic trainer Bryan Housand has been voted to represent the International League’s field staff at the 2015 Triple-A All-Star game on July 15 at Werner Park in Omaha, Nebraska.

Housand, 40, is just the second athletic trainer in team history to be selected to the IL’s staff for the Midsummer Classic. He joins Paul Anderson, who served during the 2001 Triple-A All-Star Game at Victory Field in Indianapolis.

“This is a definite honor to represent the Indians and International League at this year’s All-Star Game,” Housand said. “I’m already looking forward to this great event between the top squads from the International and Pacific Coast League.”

A native of Wilmington, North Carolina, Housand graduated from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill with a Physical Education degree with an emphasis on sports medicine. He began his career as the trainer for both New Hanover Regional Medical Center (1997-2000) and Hoggard High School (1997-2001) in his Wilmington hometown, before joining the Pittsburgh Pirates organization in 2001.

Housand has since worked across five levels of the Pirates’ farm system during his 15-year career in profession baseball. His resume includes stints with Short-Season Williamsport (2001-02), LoA Hickory (2003-05), HiA Lynchburg (2006-09) and Double-A Altoona (2010), as well as his current five-year tenure as the head trainer for the Triple-A Indianapolis Indians.

The Tribe’s Housand will be joined at the Triple-A All-Star Game by Syracuse Chiefs manager Billy Gardner Jr., Pawtucket Red Sox skipper Kevin Boles and Rochester Red Wings hitting coach Tim Doherty as the IL’s official field staff.

The opposing PCL squad is headed by Omaha Storm Chaser’s manager Brian Poldberg and will include Colorado Springs Sky Sox pitching coach Fred Dabney, Oklahoma City Dodgers hitting coach Franklin Stubbs and Omaha trainer Dave Iannicca.
