BOBDIREX Presents Jesus Christ Superstar June 5-21

JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR is a world known rock musical/opera with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Tim Rice. The musical is a loose Gospel telling of the last week of Christ’s life from Palm Sunday until the Crucifixion. Much of the plot centers around the interpersonal relationships between Christ, Judas Iscariot and Mary Magdalene not depicted in the Bible. It’s fitting that the first rock musical (Broadway in 1971) should have a social rebel and his followers as the central theme. The passion of the piece will go straight to your heart prompting discussion with the entire family.

And there’s a huge move involved. All of our critics have mentioned the troublesome sound problems at the Athenaeum so we have moved to the Marian University Theatre. The is the theatre that housed Booth Tarkington Civic Theatre before their move to Carmel. The beautiful theatre, currently being managed by Marian Alum Ben Tebbe, is just as beautiful as ever and perfect for a musical of this scope. The address is 3200 Cold Spring Road.

Harbin returns with his production team intact, Kenny Shepard is Choreography and Trevor Fanning in charge of Music Direction and the orchestra. The production stars the excellent talents of Patrick Clements as ‘Jesus,’ ‘Joe Doyel as ‘Judas’ and Julia Perillo as ‘Mary.’ Ms. Perillo just finished work with the Michael Feinstein American Songbook Competition.

When asked about the move, Harbin replied, “I’m very excited about trying a new venue, especially one that is so well taken care of. But I’m also extremely nervous about changing our address. Theatre is like real estate, it’s all about location and your audience’s ability to find you.”
