The City’s Department of Public Works (DPW) announced today that Market Street between Alabama Street and New Jersey Street will be closed to vehicle traffic in both directions beginning Wednesday, March 11 through late summer/early fall 2016. Pedestrian access and access for emergency vehicles to Market Street will remain open during the closure. Bicycle and pedestrian access to the nearby Indianapolis Cultural Trail will remain open during the Market Street closure.
Suggested detours for motorists include the following:
- Drivers traveling westbound on Market Street should detour north on New Jersey Street, west on Ohio Street, south on Alabama Street, then continue west on Market Street.
- Drivers traveling eastbound on Market Street should detour north on Delaware Street, east on Ohio Street, south on East Street, then continue east on Market Street.
