Taste of the Southside Announces Winners

February 25, 2014 by Naptown Buzz

Taste of the Southside 2014

The Greater Greenwood Chamber of Commerce’s 23rd annual Taste of the Southside saw a record, 1,150 attendees yesterday. Guests were able to indulge on more than 100 samples from 30 exhibitors, while being able to vote for their favorites in a few categories during the Southside’s largest taste event.

The winners are:

  • Best Dessert: Pinocchio’s Original Italian
  • Best Appetizer, Salad, Soup or Stew: Jonathan Byrd’s Cafeteria
  • Best Beverage: Mexico City Grill
  • Best Entrée: Holy Smoke Hog Roast Company
  • Best Decorated Booth: Pinocchio’s Original Italian and A Piece of Cake (tie)

During the Chef Challenge, sponsored by WISH-TV and Indy Style, the competitors had 30 minutes to prepare three dishes for a panel of judges including mystery tray items including dates, instant grits, stout beer and honey goal cheese. The dishes were judged on plate presentation, flavor, portion size and how creatively the secret ingredients were incorporated. The coveted title of Best of Show was awarded to Chef Richard Goss from Richard’s Kitchen and Market.

The Taste also hosted its first Mixology Competition, sponsored by Republic National Distributing Company. Participating bartenders created one cocktail using 2 Gingers Whiskey, Sailor Jerry Rum or Stoli Vodka. A panel of judges based their decision on the cocktail’s name, balance, simplicity, taste, originality and presentation. The Master Mixologist was Andy Hurst from Texas Roadhouse. His drink the Stoli Ole Oxen Free averaged 74.5 out of a possible 80 points.
