Employee Benefits Firm Plans Headquarters Growth in Indianapolis

August 6, 2012 by Mel McMahon

Apex Benefits Group, Inc., an employee benefits service provider, announced plans to expand its headquarters in Indianapolis, creating up to 25 high-wage jobs by 2016.

The company, which provides services to private, non-profit and public companies, will invest $1 million to lease and equip a new facility for its headquarters at 3755 E. 82nd St. As part of the project, the company will purchase new furniture and computer hardware and software for the 7,329 square-foot office building slated to be operational by September.

“We welcome Apex Benefits’ expansion and investment on Indianapolis’ north side,” said Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard. “We are pleased to support projects such as this that add quality, high-paying jobs for our city’s workforce.”

The company plans to begin hiring additional sales and professional associates in Indianapolis this September. The highly-skilled positions will earn an average wage of $44 an hour. Interested candidates can apply at www.apexbg.com/about-us/careers.aspx.

“As health insurance costs continue to climb and the federal regulatory environment becomes more complex employers are increasingly relying on specialists like us to help them develop and manage employee health and wellness plans,” said John Gause, president of Apex Benefits. “We continue to experience growth and success due to the relationships built with Indiana employers, as well as attracting and retaining the best talent our state has to offer. Indiana is and has been home to several successful insurance companies and administrators, which makes it a great place to find talented health and wellness professionals.”

Founded in 2003, Apex Benefits has grown to more than 25 associates and operated satellite offices in Tippecanoe and Owen counties. The company is registered as an Anthem Elite broker, a designation reserved for only the top one percent of firms in the state. Apex Benefits, a 2012 ‘Company to Watch’ recipient, provides services to clients including Steak ‘n Shake, Metropolitan School District of Lawrence Township and Purdue University.

The Indiana Economic Development Corporation offered Apex Benefits Group, Inc. up to $400,000 in conditional tax credits and up to $45,000 in training grants based on the company’s job creation plans. These tax credits are performance-based, meaning until Hoosiers are hired, the company is not eligible to claim incentives. The city of Indianapolis will support the project through additional incentives at the request of Develop Indy.

“Decisions like the one Apex Benefits is making to continue to invest in Indiana reflects the continued confidence companies small and large have in our state,” said Dan Hasler, Secretary of Commerce and chief executive officer of the Indiana Economic Development Corporation. “Our pro-growth, low-tax business policies give the Hoosier State the upper hand when it comes to growing businesses and creating jobs.”

Apex Benefits joins 14 other companies that have committed to locating or growing their headquarters in Indianapolis this year, creating more than 1,300 projected new jobs. Just last month, Roche Diagnostics announced plans to invest $300 million to expand its North American headquarters on the northeast side of Indianapolis, adding up to 100 new jobs by 2017.
