The Wizard of Oz at Beef & Boards

June 1, 2012 by Naptown Buzz

INDIANAPOLIS – It’s the tale that taught us “there’s no place like home!” Join Dorothy, Toto and their friends as they follow the yellow brick road to see “The Wizard of Oz” at Beef & Boards Dinner Theatre through July 15.

Based on the series of books written by L. Frank Baum, and made famous by the 1939 MGM film starring Judy Garland as Dorothy, “The Wizard of Oz” has been entertaining families for generations. The story centers on young farm girl Dorothy Gale of Kansas, who dreams what life must be like “Somewhere Over The Rainbow,” and finds out when a tornado whisks her away to a land of munchkins, witches and wizards.

Featuring Central Indiana children as the Munchkins, Beef & Boards’ musical production spotlights Lisa Bark as Dorothy. Bark is known to local audiences as Signe/Beverly Engelson, the daughter in the Church Basement Ladies series. Also returning to the stage is local celebrity Trisha Shepherd in the role of Glinda, Eddie Curry as the Wizard, and other Beef & Boards favorites Doug King, Jeff Stockberger and Jayson Elliott as the Scarecrow, Tin Man and Cowardly Lion, respectively.

Plus, as the 2012 Family Show, tickets for kids ages 3-15 receive a $10 discount. So bring your munchkins to see the classic you enjoyed as a child! It’s live theatre that’s fun for the whole family.
There are 50 performances of “The Wizard of Oz” scheduled in the intimate space of Beef & Boards Dinner Theatre. Tickets range from $37 to $60 and include Chef Odell Ward’s family-friendly buffet, coffee, tea and lemonade.

Tickets are discounted $10 for children ages 3-15. Discounts are also available for groups of 20 or more. Call for details.

For reservations, call the Beef & Boards Box Office at 317.872.9664. Box office hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays. For more information, including show schedule, visit www.beefandboards.com.

“The Wizard of Oz” is sponsored in part by Current Publishing, Indy’s Child and Radio Disney.
