ComedySportz World Championship Heads to Indianapolis

July 19, 2011 by Brian Groce

INDIANAPOLIS – ComedySportz Indianapolis is set to host the 27th Annual ComedySportz World Championship July 20-23, 2011. This marks the first time the tournament has come to the Circle City. All of the matches will be held at The Athenaeum, 401 E. Michigan Street. A portion of the ticket sales will be donated to the Indiana State Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Tickets for matches range from $15 to $20, with nightly ticket packages available for $25 to a SUPER FAN PASS for ALL matches only $99. Tickets and more information are available by calling The ComedySportz Theatre at (317) 951-8499 or visit www.indycomedysportz.com/tournament

ComedySportz is a fun, fast-paced, improvisational comedy show that is geared to all ages. In the vein of “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” ComedySportz is improvisational comedy played as a sport. ComedySportz is an international organization with over 20 cities, with teams in the U.S., as well as a team in Manchester, UK., and Berlin, Germany. During each match, two teams battle for laughs and points as they make up scenes, games and songs on the spot. The audience votes for the winners and a referee calls the fouls, including a groaner foul for bad puns.

The tournament will feature four nights of competition among national and international ComedySportz cities. Each show leading up to the championship match will feature four different teams from four different cities. The two teams that emerge victorious in those early rounds will compete in the late show on Saturday for the World Championship, with one city emerging as the world champ.

“ComedySportz Indianapolis has always sent a team to the World Championship and it has been a dream of ours to host it in our home town. I think all of the ComedySportz cities will really enjoy what Indianapolis has to offer.” said ComedySportz Indianapolis Executive Director, Mia Lee Bauman. “We can’t wait for the shows. They’ll be a good introduction to ComedySportz for people who don’t know us yet, but for our current fan-base there is nothing that matches the positive excitement and comic variety that a championship show offers. Personally, I’ve been doing this for eighteen years and have been in over 800 shows, but I still get swept up in the energy that comes out of any of the championship matches.”
