May 4, 2011 by Naptown Buzz

Operas singers to take over City Market
Indy Opera to stage flash mob during busy lunch hour

INDIANAPOLIS– The Indianapolis Opera will stage a flash mob at The Indianapolis City Market (222 East Market Street) at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 4 to create awareness for their upcoming production of La Traviata.

More than 30 members from the cast of La Traviata will begin spontaneously singing Libiamo ne’ lieti calici or The Drinking Song from the upcoming production. The performance will occur only once, and will last four to five minutes total.

About La Traviata
Featuring some of opera’s most loved arias and ensembles, The Indianapolis Opera’s performance of La Traviata will run May 13 and 15 at Clowes Memorial Hall, accompanied by the Indianapolis Symphony Orchesta.

Violetta, a Parisian courtesan with a sordid past, falls madly in love with Alfredo, only to have her hopes destroyed when Alfredo’s father intervenes. Their spellbinding reunion is never to be missed. It will be performed in Italian with easy-to-read translations projected above the stage.

What: La Traviata

When: May 13 at 8 p.m. and May 15 at 2 p.m.

Where: Clowes Memorial Hall, 4602 Sunset Ave., Indianapolis

Cost: $115 and $98 for premium seats, and $70 and $30 for regular seats
